Role of High Level Domain Expertise in Automated Open Source Analysis

This project explores the process of analysis and communication strategies of an expert analyst through an exploratory study. Approach: The study captures analytical processes and communication strategies used by an expert analyst while analyzing a case study of Civilunrest. The methodology used to capture this data is a Think-aloud, observational study done in the user’s context. The process is documented
through both video and screen captures. Verbal protocol analysis of data is done on the transcript generated by the think-aloud protocol to identify the analytical process and communication strategies. For the current study, we are writing a paper titled: “Role of High Level Domain Expertise in Automated Open Source Analysis”. This reports the Analytical processes and Communication strategies of an expert analyst and
also reports how Veratect’s Automated Open source Analysis tools can be enhanced through an understanding of these processes.

Benefits

This is an exploratory study. The primary goal of the study is to understand the process of Analysis and identify communication strategies used by an expert analyst. Our approach is through verbal protocol analysis. The data is collected through a think-aloud and observational study of an expert Analyst doing case study analysis conducted in context. This understanding will also help us study and improve the use of Veratect’s automated open source analysis system.
